Study jamsDuring the quarter CCM hosts study jams around midterms and finals. We do this to allow members to have a secure quiet place to study when the library is too full or overwhelming. We also provide snacks and it allows for others to help each other if a member had previously taken a class that you are currently enrolled in.

border health projectEvery year, CCM members volunteer alongside UCSD medical school students to provide basic health exams to underserved communities. Border Health Project provides UCSD undergraduates with a great opportunity to witness first hand the need of underserved communities, to practice medical techniques, and to practice medical terminology in Spanish. CCM members have the opportunity to shadow doctors/medical students, learn how to take vitals, take medical history forms, and learn about the life of migrant farm workers.

Soup KitchenCCM strives to reach out to all underrepresented communities in anyway possible. Recently, CCM members joined a local soup kitchen in downtown San Diego to provide food and clothes for those in need. CCM members get to personally interact with local community members in need. We were able to talk to community members that are homeless, or struggling to make ends meet. 15% of America lives in poverty and interacting with these people puts a face on the issue at large. It empowers those who are often disregarded in our communities by providing a warm meal, smiles, a new shirt, and support.

Day labor outreachEvery 1st Saturday of the month CCM pairs with Border Angels to hand out lunches and refreshments to day laborers while they wait for work. We also hand out papers and flyers containing information about their rights and where they may find legal help. It is an eye opening experience in which you discover not all day laborers are of Latino/Hispanic descent and if they are comfortable enough, the workers will tell you a bit of their life story. You may also discover just how long and how often workers wait for work. It is a safe environment to have a casual conversation with day laborers and have a better understanding of how day laborers obtain work.

LMSA-CCM Mentorship ProgramCCM pairs with the Latino Medical Student Association from the UCSD Medical school to partner up CCM members with a medical student. This allows for a more intimate environment in which students can get to know what medical school is really like. It is also a great opportunity to gain a personal adviser in your pre-health journey.

Border AngelsCCM volunteers with the organization Border Angels to do water drops and supply drops near the border for crossing immigrants. It is a unique experience in which you get perspective on the obstacles incoming immigrants face while crossing the border. Along the way of dropping supplies you can get glimpses of what was left behind by those who crossed.
