Article I Name The name of this Student Organization will be Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine at UCSD. Chicanos/Latinos for Community medicine at UCSD is a non-profit organization.
Article II Purpose The purpose of this Student Organization shall be: 1.To promote the development of communication network for pre-health students interested in serving underserved communities. 2.To advocate student interests in improvements of healthcare in underserved communities. 3.To encourage and expose students to community services and clinical experience. 4.To increase the access of medical care in the underserved community. 5.To provide a safe atmosphere where students of all identities can communicate for the betterment of underserved communities.
Article III Membership 1.The Student Organization is open to all students of the University of California San Diego (UCSD). 2.The Student Organization shall not discriminate against any student on the basis of race, color, opinions or affiliations, or veteran status. 3.To become an Active Member: a.Attendance of at least 50% of GBMs for the quarter are required b.Members must attend 2 club activities (i.e. tabling, fundraising, flyering) and 1 community service event (i.e. Project UP, Border Health Project, Doc for a day) per quarter 4.Benefits of being a member include: a.Networking with Health professionals to obtain valuable career experience b.Invitations to Health and Professional Conferences c.Volunteer Opportunities and Internships d.Leadership experience through participation in subcommittees (i.e fundraising committee) e.Access to CCM Student Resources 5.Dues (if applicable) a.The amount of $25 will be charged every school year for membership dues. b.The money will be paid the first month of the quarter the student becomes a member. 6.Membership allows one to vote and join a committee. Membership will be renewed by registration and dues (if applicable) at the beginning of each academic year.
Article IV Officer and Duties The Executive Board officers of this Student Organization shall include: 1. External/Internal Chair ·Be the chief executive of the Student Organization ·Preside over meetings of the Student Organization ·Serve as the liaison between the Student Organization and the administrative offices.. ·Call special meetings ·Meet bi-quarterly with advisor ·Take care that this constitution and the laws of the student body are faithfully executed ·Perform any administrative power or duty not provided for in this constitution ·Help Public Relations check e-mail regularly ·Be available for at least one more quarter after term has ended to provide support for the new board 2. Administrative Affairs Officer: ·Take minutes at GBMs and Board meetings ·Maintain a complete and accurate records of all meetings (sign-in sheets) ·Room Reservations ·Organization of CCM administrative binder ·Report to the President 3. Finance Officer: ·Keep a complete and accurate account of the Student Organization’s funds ·Sign requisitions for the Student Organization funds ·Organization of CCM finance binder ·Prepare the annual budget request packet with the president ·Organize at least 1 fundraising events per quarter ·Maintain and inform CCM about current financial aid opportunities (i.e scholarships/internships) ·Report to the President 4. Public Relations Officer: ·Check e-mail lists ·Responsible for advertising CCM related events ·Flyering for CCM ·Maintain the CCM web-pages up to date (includes google page and Facebook groups and GroupSpaces with pictures, announcements, etc.) ·Report to President 5. Professional Affairs Officer ·Maintain CCM Student Resource Binder current (electronic and hard copy) ·Obtain professional speakers for GBM ·Maintain contact list of potential speakers ·Obtain necessary resources for meetings ·Arrange places/rooms for Study Jams ·Keep contact with Test Prep (Princeton Review, Kaplan, etc.) current ·Report to president 6. Outreach & Volunteer Services Officer ·Organize community outreach (i.e. Project UP) and community volunteer services ·OVS Officer should arrange at least one of the aforementioned event per quarter ·Maintain a list of potential outreach events and hours ·Keep record of member activities ·Serve as the liaison between the MAPS and CCM ·Organize social events ·Report to president 7. Subcommittees will serve as member created groups to help each officer in planning for a(n) event(s) ·subcommittees can include a finance, party planning, project, Relay for Life, Grad, etc. committees which are run at the officer's discretion
Article V Community Responsibilities All members recognize that they are part of the University of California San Diego community and the communities of San Diego County, and that as much, they are subject to the rules and regulations set forth in the current student handbook, national, state, and city laws. As students, members realize that they represent the University of California at any time they are involved in official Club/Organization functions on or off campus, and agree to do so in a responsible manner.
Article VI Funding The Student Organization will have a Vice President of Finance officer designated as the party responsible for finances. All monies raised through Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine at UCSD dues, donations, and fundraisers are acknowledged as a Chicanos/Latinos for Community Medicine at UCSD funds and will be maintained in a University of California San Diego agency account.
Article VII Elections 1.Members – Members in good standing shall comprise the electorate. Each members shall be entitled to vote. 2.Elections – Elections shall be held every Spring Quarter. 3.Qualifications for Officer – All officers must be a registered and enrolled students at the University of California San Diego with a GPA of 2.5 or above during the entire term of office and at time of election. Incoming freshman/transfer (those who not have previously attended a post-secondary institution or have no existing University of California San Diego grade point average) shall be exempt from the following qualifications requirements during the first academic semester in office or until a cumulative University of California San Diego grade point average has been established. a.Candidates should have an active membership for at least quarter and show outstanding dedication to club
Article IX Vacancy of Office 1.President – In the event that the president position becomes vacant, such vacancy shall be filled by the remainder of the Board. 2.In the event that the position of become vacant a.The Board elect the new officer b. The president appoints the officer and the members will need to approve
Article X Removal of Officers 1.Grounds for removal of an officer include: a.Violation of the University of California b.Violation of rules and regulations set forth in the current student handbook c.Failure to perform the duties of the office as set forth in the constitution and bylaws of the Student Organization d.Failure to uphold the provisions of this constitution and bylaws e.An officer may be removed by the following process: i.A petition to remove the officer in question must be submitted to another officer. Such a petition must contain the signature of at least 20% of the voting members of the Club/Organization. When such a petition is received the officer shall call a meeting of the Club/Organization to decide upon removal. ii.The grounds for removal are to be presented by the officer in charge at a regular or special meeting of the Club/Organization. iii.The officer in question shall be provided one week to present a defense either in person or in writing iv.A 2/3 majority vote of the voting membership shall decided upon removal, with voting not to occur sooner than one week after the presentation of the grounds and defense have been made. There must be a quorum for the vote of removal Article XI Amendments After deliberation of proposed amendments it shall be tabled until the next meeting, at which time will be brought up for vote. A 2/3 majority will be required to pass amendments. Any amendments will be added following Article XII. If there is a change of earlier articles, they will supersede the previous conditions. There is no need to continually change the document. Article XII Risk Management Any event that Chicanos/Latinos for Community medicine at UCSD participates will be held in a responsible manner by abiding to the ground rules of the University. In the event that Chicanos/Latinos for Community medicine at UCSD provides medical assistance to a community, all volunteers will work under the direction of licensed professionals (doctors, nurses, counselors, etc.). The University does not recommend that students provide medical assistance. Chicanos/Latinos for Community medicine at UCSD understands that the University does not assume legal liability for the actions of the organization. Chicanos/Latinos for Community medicine at UCSD recognizes that the University generally recommends against all international travel by Student Organizations due to the myriad of risks travelers face in foreign countries. Student organizations are discouraged from traveling to foreign countries due to the wide variety of risks involved with foreign travel, and the extensive planning efforts required by the Student Organization’s Members to manage those risks. Security risks and health care services vary widely from one country to another, so thorough research on those topics is especially important. International travelers are advised to research US State Department Travel Advisories and the CDC Travel Health site and abide by all recommended alerts and warnings, and procure travel insurance with medical coverage that covers their chosen destination because most USA Health Plans are not valid in foreign countries.
